Our social lessons are for anyone interested in learning to lead or follow in ballroom dance so that they can
apply their ballroom skills at social dances, weddings, or anywhere else ballroom music is played. We offer
beginner-friendly lessons, additional workshops on more in-depth topics, as well as opportunities to practice
outside of those lessons.
Don’t be nervous if you’ve never danced before! Most people start our lessons with little to no dance
experience. All you need is clothes you can move in and maybe a water bottle. There’s also no need to bring a
dance partner, as we’ll rotate partners throughout the lessons – but feel free to bring your friends! We strive
to build a positive and inclusive atmosphere for people of all backgrounds.
Your first lesson is free every semester. For further lessons you need to pay club membership dues
to officially become a member of the club. Our social lessons are open to only GT students, faculty, staff, and
their domestic partners. Come try one lesson and see how you like it!
Social lessons consists of a structured lesson schedule of the following dances: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot,
Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing. Every week for three weeks, two of the above dances will be taught by our student
and alumni
coaches. Lessons will build off the previous weeks, but there will be a small review if you happen to
join us in the middle! We entertain dancers of all levels, teaching beginner moves as well as
intermediate moves. Our mission
goal is to strengthen the GT dance community, build lifelong friendships, provide a place on campus for
individuals to express themselves through dance, and encourage people to step out of their comfort zone
and learn something new!
Start date to be announced! Will be on Thursdays. Check out the calendar for most up-to-date events.
In addition to weekly social lessons, we will have specialty workshops held by student coaches and guest
instructors! This includes Viennese Waltz, Mambo, Samba, Quickstep, Hustle, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango,
and workshops covering abstract topics such as leading & following, frame, and more!
